New environmental poison found in fish
New 12/10/99

A swedish environmental researcher, Margaretha Adolfsson-Erici at Stockholm University, has found high concentrations of the bacteriacide triclosan in fish 8-10 microgram per gram fish-gall (from the gall bladder). There is also triclosan in the treated water from the Stockholm and Gothenburg sewage treatment plant. This bacteriacide is used in toothpaste (for example in Colgate), mouth-wash and deodorants...

Triclosan is a pre-dioxin, meaning that it forms dioxins during, for example, combustion. Gunnar Lindgren says it is very likely that this chemical will be in the sludge --- another reason for not spreading sludge on farm land or burning sludge.
